Mercedes S Class 2014- cutting edge technology

German engineering in the automotive field has little or no rivals, which could easily be seen during the recent Mercedes S Class launch in India. It was one of the most eagerly anticipated launches for the year, possible leading the way for other manufactures as well. As echoed by voices of the company, the S Class is a product which is always best or nothing.

To constantly renovate a car which has been around since 1954 is no mean feat. However, the car has been available for Indian customers from the year 1995. From then, many changes have been incorporated in every subsequent vehicle, but none as significant as this. In fact,it is a completely new vehicle as compared to the previous one.

While 2013 was the year of the offensive for Mercedes Benz India, 2014 would be a year of excellence, as expressed by Eberhard Kern, MD and CEO of MBIL. In the previous year, new models such as A Class and B Class have cemented the company's position in the luxury hatchback segment. Even the AMG Driving Academy, initiated by Mercedes at BIC, has seen more than 3000 participants in its first year.

Notice the large and newly designed front grille, which looks positively aggressive. There are two cameras inside the grille, which give a 360 degree pan view of surroundings. Infra red technology has been used in the cameras, resulting in high all round security. On the sides, generous doses of chrome have been used and the sloping roofline looks quite aerodynamic. Teardrop-shaped headlights offer fantastic view at the front and rear. As a standard feature these days, daytime running LED lights are also present, once again adding a touch of class of this vehicle.

Since most of these vehicles are driven by chauffeurs, Mercedes has come out with a special chauffeur package. This includes 12" screens at the back, each of which can be independently controlled. Separate AC settings are available for individuals. Individual trays are installed for the rear passengers, giving them an airline feeling. The Burmeister sound system in this vehicle is capable of providing surround audio and each passenger would hear it differently. Tweets are hidden within the speakers and can be controlled with a switch.

Mercedes S Class 2014 oozes luxury and class from every inch. The new vehicle now gets a 4.7 litre, 453bhp petrol engine and 7G Tronic plus transmission. It is automatic and more fuel efficient than the 2013 variant.

Safety

In terms of safety, the usual goodies such as ABS and EBD are already there. A new feature known as Intelligent Driving System helps the driver remain alert. It can brake the vehicle or change direction if it detects humans or animals in its path, even during the night.

With so much going for it, the S Class can now stand in the same league as Bentley Continental Flying Spur, but is less expensive. At present, it is Rs. 1.57 Crores (ex-showroom, New Delhi).
